    Symptoms and signs from exposure to chromium, via the skin, respiratory tract, etc. include:<\/span><\/p>\n

    • weakening of the immune system<\/span><\/li>\n
    • respiratory problems<\/span><\/li>\n
    • sinusitis<\/span><\/li>\n
    • vomiting<\/span><\/li>\n
    • nausea<\/span><\/li>\n
    • diarrhoea<\/span><\/li>\n
    • fever<\/span><\/li>\n
    • dizziness<\/span><\/li>\n
    • heart failure<\/span><\/li>\n
    • coma<\/span><\/li>\n
    • death<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Risks and effects of exposure to hexavalent chromium<\/b><\/h2>\n

      The US Environmental Protection Agency<\/em> (USEPA, 1998) has recognised the high toxicity of hexavalent chromium, classifying it as carcinogenic to humans and the environment.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      \"\"The results of the studies also do not rule out a link between cancer and repeated dermal exposure, while the skin-sensitising properties<\/strong> of chromium VI are already established, even at a rather low concentration level. In this case, the risk is that of absorption of the substance through the skin<\/strong>, again affecting workers who are exposed to the substance, but also the general population, by coming into contact with tanned skin.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      EN ISO 21420:2020 imposes a limit on Chromium VI in leather<\/b><\/h2>\n

      This standard defines various <\/span>indispensable requirements for protective gloves<\/b>, among which we would like to emphasise that of<\/span> Material Harmlessness.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

      In particular, the standard requires tests to detect the presence of the following substances, which may be present within minimum levels\u00a0<\/span>

      1. chromium VI, in all leathers, maximum limit 3 mg\/kg<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. nickel release (for metallic components)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. pH value\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. azo dyes (applicable to all dyed leathers and fabrics)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      5. dimethylformamide (for materials containing polyurethane)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      6. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (applicable to rubbers and plastics) <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
